Download only part of a Twitch VOD

Need one moment from a long stream? Set a start and end timestamp and download just that part – not the whole VOD.

Why download only a part?

Twitch streams are often 4 to 10 hours long. If you only need a 15-minute segment for a highlight video, a TikTok or a client edit, downloading the full VOD wastes time and tens of gigabytes of disk space. Vodsnip only fetches the pieces of the stream that fall inside your timestamps, so a short section downloads in seconds.

How to set timestamps

1. Open the VOD in Vodsnip and click Download.
2. Choose Timestamps instead of Full video. The fields start at 00:00:00 and the full length of the VOD.
3. Type the Start time: hours, minutes, seconds. The cursor jumps to the next field automatically, so typing 012410 gives 01:24:10.
4. Type the End time the same way. The clip length and estimated file size update as you type.
5. Click Download.

Tip: use the arrow keys to nudge a value up or down by one, or hold Shift to jump by ten.

Use a Twitch link with a timestamp

On Twitch, you can copy a link to the current moment of a VOD. It ends with something like ?t=1h24m10s. Paste that link anywhere in Vodsnip – or into the Start field – and the start time is filled in for you.

How precise is the cut?

Twitch videos are stored with a keyframe roughly every two seconds. Vodsnip cuts without re-encoding to keep the original quality and speed, so a clip can start up to about two seconds before your start time. For editing that's usually ideal – you get a little handle to trim in your editor.
