Twitch VOD download not working?

If a Twitch VOD won’t download, it’s almost always one of these six reasons. Here’s how to tell which one – and what to do.

1. The VOD is subscriber-only

Some streamers make their past broadcasts available only to subscribers. These videos can't be downloaded with Vodsnip – you'll see a message saying the video is for channel subscribers only. If it's your own channel, change the setting or use Twitch's own download option.

2. The VOD has expired

Twitch deletes past broadcasts after 7, 14 or 60 days depending on the channel. If the VOD no longer appears on the channel, it's gone and can't be recovered. How long Twitch keeps VODs.

3. The channel doesn't save past broadcasts

Past broadcasts are only stored if the streamer has turned on Store past broadcasts. If the Broadcasts tab is empty, check the Highlights and Uploads tabs instead.

4. Parts of the audio are silent

That's not a download error: Twitch mutes parts of VODs that contain copyrighted music, and those parts stay muted in the file.

5. The VOD is still processing

Right after a stream ends, the VOD can take a little while to be fully available. If the thumbnail is missing or the length looks wrong, wait a few minutes and try again.

6. Connection or disk problems

• Check that you have enough free disk space – roughly 3–4 GB per hour of 1080p60.
• VPNs, firewalls and school or company networks can block video downloads. Try another network.
• Click Try again in the Downloads list – Vodsnip automatically retries pieces that fail, but a full retry can help after a network drop.
