How to edit Twitch VODs

The fastest workflow for turning Twitch streams into YouTube videos, shorts and recaps: download only what you need, as a clean MP4, and drop it into your editor.

Step 1: Download only what you'll edit

Don't download an 8-hour stream to use 10 minutes. In Vodsnip, choose Timestamps and set a start and end time with a little margin on both sides. You get a small, fast file instead of a 30 GB monster. How timestamps work.

Step 2: Pick the right quality

• Source (usually 1080p60) for YouTube videos and anything you'll crop or zoom.
• 720p60 is often enough for vertical shorts, where you crop into the frame anyway.
• Audio only for podcasts and voice edits.

Step 3: Drag it into your editor

When the download finishes, drag it from the Vodsnip Downloads list straight into your editor's timeline or media bin. The file is a standard MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio:

• Premiere Pro: imports directly; for long 1080p60 files on slower machines, proxies help.
• DaVinci Resolve: imports directly. If playback stutters on long clips, generate optimized media.
• Final Cut Pro: imports directly; you can let it create optimized media in the background.
• CapCut and mobile editors: AirDrop or sync the MP4 to your phone and edit there.

Tips for stream editors

• Ask for timestamps: streamers and chat moderators can note times during the stream, so you know exactly what to download.
• Paste Twitch links with ?t= into Vodsnip to jump straight to the moment.
• Queue several segments at once and edit the first while the rest download.
• Save VODs early – they can expire after 7 days. See retention times.
